I am in love with all things DIY and I recently (last year) got into a new hobby. Crocheting. I love it. I’ve dabbled with a few patterns here and there and am definitely still learning. But wanted to show off a project that I am so proud of!

I originally set out to create a blanket when starting this project. But, I ended up abandoning that plan and creating something else instead. That’s right, I made a pillow case.
I was very new to crochet back then and this pattern was a little more advanced for me than I realized going in. Today, I find this project to actually be on the more simpler side and am actually considering attempting a blanket again one of these days. Basically, this pattern took me a while to learn and the project took longer than I expected. So as I was creating my blanket I decided to stop.
But, instead of stopping the project completely I decided to create something else. So I made another square the exact same size as the one I’d just made. This would be the second side of the pillow!
Here is the video tutorial that I followed for this pattern:
The pattern is a shell pattern that builds into a beautiful square shape. I worked on the first side of the pillow for awhile before deciding to turn the project into a pillow. Once that decision was made I continued working on it until the square was a size that worked for my new pillow. (I went with this 16×16 pillow insert). Once I had reached the desired size I did it all over again following this tutorial.
When I had both sides completed I used slip stitches all around three of the edges, inserted my new pillow and slip stitched it shut. Overall, I think it turned out really cute! This first “big project” that kind of went wrong was a great learning experience for me. It made me realize that it’s really ok to mess up or start a project and not finish it. When we are being creative there are so many different directions a project can go. That is what makes it so much fun! Let me know what you think of this new decorative pillow I created!
